K-pop Dance: Blooming Hope from the Street to Social Media
• Brief blurb: What is K-pop dance and why does it matter to AAPI communities and youth activism? Dr. Chuyun Oh explains the evolution of K-pop dance from the 1980s and its fandom – cover dance – the global youth’s way of “fandoming” themselves. The history of K-pop dance is a history of people whose stories are often untold, shadowed by the spectacular idol stage. Dr. Oh shares the behind stories, challenges, and inspiration from working with AAPI K-pop dancers and fans in NY, CA, and Seoul since 2016.
