About this Event

The term “ally” is frequently used by non-Native individuals to express support for Native American and Indigenous peoples. TCU’s efforts to develop respectful and mutually reciprocal relationships with Native and Indigenous peoples require the commitment and participation of non-Native allies. What, however, does it mean to be an effective ally with Native American peoples and tribes? And, more specifically, what does it mean to be an ally with the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas? This conversation with members of the Alabama-Coushatta Tribal Council will provide insight and training to help non-Native individuals and institutions develop the knowledge, attitudes, and actions necessary for being effective allies with Native Americans.
Panelists:
Nita Battise (Tribal Council Vice-Chair)
Melanie Battise (Tribal Council Secretary and member of TCU's Native American Advisory Circle)
