February 21 - 25, 2022
Student Gallery, Moudy North 109
The Art Galleries at TCU presents, “Don’t Let Fear Consume Your Light’, Brian Dickson Jr.’s Independent Study Thesis Exhibition. “Don’t Let Fear Consume Your Light”, will be on view in the student gallery, Moudy North 109, from February 21st - 25th, 2022, with an opening reception on Monday, February 21st, from 5pm-7pm.
Don’t Let Fear Consume Your Light is a series of oil paintings that explores Black spirituality, consciousness, trauma, and beauty. Brian submerges African American figures in the middle of environments constructed by symbols of duality (light and darkness) to express vital decisions, Black people must make to survive. They must choose to either compromise and “behave” or live boldly in all their glory.
Brian is a Fort Worth native from the Stop 6 community. In 2021 Brian and classmate Kristian Gaytan painted a mural for TCU’s Intercultural Center. Brian was responsible for illustrations for Theatre TCU’s spring 2021 virtual production of For Bo: A Play Inspired By The Murder of Botham Jean By Officer Amy Guyger. Currently Brian is finishing his last semester at TCU.
