Algebraic geometry is the study of varieties, which can be interpreted as solutions of polynomial equations. An effective method to do so is to let the coefficients of the polynomial equations vary, which geometrically means consider families of varieties. This will be the guiding principle of today's talk, which will be focused on the interaction between representation theory,  the geometry of moduli spaces of curves, and generalized theta functions.
