The 3rd annual conference “Diasporic and Indigenous Dance & Community” creates space for local cultural ambassadors to speak about the relationship between cultural dance and community-building and the challenges to and importance of Indigenous/Diasporic Arts. The conference includes a public showcase of these artists’ work to facilitate an understanding of DFW’s global community, and to provide an engaged learning experience that promotes both pedagogical and professional interactions between students and artists.

Our panel members are local to DFW, with one keynote speaker from LA, California. The conference will have 5 sessions: two dance classes that will be open for all levels; an artist showcase, a mediated artist panel and an audience Q&A; and the conference ends with a traditional celebration of Afro-Brazilian Culture featuring students of DANC 10331-030, providing the experience of an authentic cultural celebration with members of the local community.
