Netflix screening and discussion panel titled Gentefied. Two episodes will show at 7 p.m. each Friday from Sept. 18-Oct. 15.
The Netflix dramedy attempts to tackle the complex history of the culture’s evolvement, as well as how a neighborhood in East L.A. is currently grappling with gentrification. Like much of the United States, Los Angeles wouldn’t be the city it is today without Mexican Americans and their vibrant, influential culture. Gentefied sets out to demonstrate that nothing can defeat a Mexican American family’s strength to stand by each other in times of turmoil.
CRES students and faculty will be joined for this event by representatives from United Latino Association, Sigma Lambda Alpha Sorority, Lambda Theta Phi Fraternity, Chi Upsilon Sigma Sorority and the TCU Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science.
