Fort Worth – The Art Galleries at TCU are pleased to present As for me and my house, a TCU MFA Thesis Exhibition by Lauren Hope Walker. The exhibition runs April 2-13 with an opening reception for the artist on Friday April 5, 6-8pm.

Lauren Hope Walker’s new work explores an obscure domestic realm where a variety of materials and objects narrate the pictorial and spatial possibilities of this world. Paper pulp, glazed ceramics, paintings and sculptures take the form of a Tiffany lamp, a mischievous 6-pack of Lone Star Beer, a fountain of mysterious yellow liquid, and a lavender claw-foot tub who bleeds out of her faucet. These anthropomorphized forms aid in Walker’s exploration of her own identity and the examination of the intersection of queerness, femininity and the grotesque. The result of this exploration is not linear but rather fragments of a narrative told through a community of objects, spaces, and materials. In her exhibition at Moudy Gallery, Walker presents new sculptures and paintings to viewers and invites them to become immersed in the oddities and possibilities that her world has to offer.

Lauren Hope Walker was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. She received her BFA in painting with a minor in ceramics from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX in 2021. Walker currently lives and works in Fort Worth and will receive her MFA in painting from Texas Christian University in May 2024. While in graduate school Walker has participated in multiple group shows at Arts Fort Worth, The Pool Near Southside, Fort Worth Contemporary Arts and 500X Gallery. Walker has been awarded the Graduate Research Support Fund from Texas Christian University all three years of her Graduate Fellowship, where she also served as an instructor of record for Drawing 1 courses.

Moudy Gallery is located on the TCU campus at 2805 S. University Dr, Fort Worth, TX 76129. Regular opening hours are Monday to Friday 11am – 4pm, Saturdays 1-4pm, and by appointment.
