The Art Galleries at TCU are proud to present Nevertheless, We Rested, curated by Art History graduate students Isa Blankers, Abigail Sempebwa and Eunice Seong, with contributions from Soliyana Woldetsadik, in Moudy Gallery, August 18 – September 11, 2025. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, August 21st from 5-7pm. Stay tuned - a detailed calendar of free programming will accompany Nevertheless, We Rested and be announced via the Art Galleries at TCU’s website and social media.

Nevertheless, We Rested places select works from the TCU Permanent Art Collection in dialogue with art by contemporary artists Joyce Alexander, Jamaljé Bassue, Morgan Newton, and Anna Pham to explore the intersection of self-care and social activism as it has transformed over time. They join twentieth-century artists including Romare Bearden, Jack Boynton, Alice Neel, and Bror Utter to investigate the dynamic ways in which play, joy, and rest can be visualized and practiced. Centered around three major themes of play, joy, and rest, the artworks presented in this exhibition challenge our relationship with modern-day “hustle culture,” encouraging audiences to consider the role of self-preservation in their everyday lives.

About the TCU Permanent Art Collection

TCU Permanent Art Collection serves the teaching and research programs of the student body and associated community of scholars. The Collection comprises over 1500 diverse objects and includes the work of highly regarded international artists such as Marc Chagall, Lee Krasner and Andy Warhol, and local artists Mickie Trotter and Bror Utter. It is also home to wonderful works by TCU Alumni artists, including previous School of Art Faculty and students.

Moudy Gallery is located on the TCU campus at 2805 S. University Dr, Fort Worth, TX 76129. Regular opening hours are Monday to Friday 11am – 4pm, Saturdays 1-4pm, and by appointment. Admission is free.
