Each year the TCU College of Education, Center for Public Education, organizes and hosts the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee for students in eight counties: Bosque, Denton, Hood, Johnson, Palo Pinto, Parker, Tarrant & Wise. This year there were 434 registrations from charter (21), parochial (7), private (19) or public (386) schools.
Due to the pandemic, Scripps has adapted and created two spelling bee format options this year: online testing and virtual.
The TCU COE Scripps Regional Spelling Bee 2021 will be held virtually on Tuesday, March 9th. We will have a “Spelling Bee Headquarters” at the TCU campus in the College of Education, Bailey-Palko Building. There will be 22 area winners to compete. The competition will be hosted via Zoom. The 30 minute timed-online spelling bee test will consist of 25 spelling words (typed) and 25 vocabulary words (multiple choice). Once the test is complete the judges and pronouncer will announce a winner and runner-up. If there is a need for a tie-breaker, then the spelling bee team will host a live-virtual spell-off similar to the traditional rounds of a spelling bee.
