The Art Galleries at TCU are proud to present At Second Glance curated by Leslie Medrano, Livia Pereira, Allison Shearer and Anna Thornton, first year MA Art History students, in Moudy Gallery, January 19 through February 2, 2023. An opening reception will be held on January 19 from 5-7pm, with a tour of the exhibition with students and collectors at 5.30pm.
This exhibition features artwork from the private collection of Jackie and John Dickinson. Composed mainly of reductive abstract works, the collection that the Dickinsons have built over forty years is rich in varying mediums and styles. They have built a rapport with artists on a national and international scale in their collecting practices and show continuous support for local Texan artists.
At Second Glance encourages viewers to interact with abstract art beyond first impressions. This exhibition highlights artistic process and formal qualities by having viewers look more closely at selected works. Collectively, this body of work challenges the tropes of plainness and superficiality of abstract art. The curators hope to equip the viewer with the confidence to take that second glance both in this exhibition and in future encounters with abstract art.
