Canceled: CANCELED: The Art of Performance at Moncrief Cancer Institute
In light of the precautions being taken by the DFW community to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the United States, we are canceling the reception for "The Art of Performance" at Moncrief Cancer Institute. Moncrief services a community that is highly immune compromised, and therefore an outbreak in their facility is highly dangerous.
We are still working through what this means for our programing for the rest of the spring 2020 semester. Please contact the galleries at email@example.com with any questions you may have, and continue to follow our socials for more updates.

Moncrief Cancer Institute in partnership with the TCU School of Art presents "The Art of Performance", featuring works on paper from the TCU Permanent Art Collection. "The Art of Performance" will be on view at Moncrief Cancer Institute from February 27 until May 28, 2020, with a public reception during the Fort Worth Art Dealers Association 2020 Spring Gallery Night on Saturday, March 28 from 4 to 6 p.m. During the reception the curators will give a brief talk about the theme of the exhibition, as well as the therapeutic quality of art and community.
"The Art of Performance" presents a selection of works on paper from TCU’s Permanent Art Collection. Although these works are very different from one another, they all explore the broad concept of performance. “Performance” here encompasses music, theatre, festivity, and artistic creation. This exhibition also addresses the importance of audience and community participation. The work is dynamic, unexpected and presents audience members with a new perspective. This exhibition considers audience as a vital part of a performance, and we invite you to be a part of that audience.
Artists featured in The Art of Performance include Kunisada Gototei, Isamu Hayakawa, George Lockwood, Nunzio Gulino, Joseph A. Pecsenke, Kitagawa Utamaro, and Ádám Würtz. This exhibition is curated by TCU MA Art History students Phoebe Adams, Emma Fletcher, Paulina Martín, Kim Phan Nguyen, and Sarah Webb.
Moncrief Cancer Institute provides Tarrant County and surrounding communities with the foremost science, resources, and programs to reduce the threat and impact of cancer. The partnership between Moncrief Cancer Institute and the TCU School of Art celebrates the vital relationship between art and medicine and how art positively impacts the patient experience. TCU graduate students are selected to participate as guest curators and then mentored through the exhibition-making process by staff of The Art Galleries at TCU.
Moncrief Cancer Institute’s exhibition space can be found on the second floor of their building, located in Near Southside at 400 W. Magnolia Ave. The exhibition’s public hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m. Admission is free.
