A gift of the Class of 1923, the original Memorial Arch was presented to TCU in honor of "those who paid the supreme price in World War I." In 1949, University Drive was widened and the arch was reconstructed into the present Memorial Columns. World War II had by then brought more lost heroes, and the new memorial was dedicated to them as well.
